Counter stools should be 12" from seat to countertop for a comfortable sitting ratio. Kitchens usually require counter stools 24" in seat height. Most all kitchen countertops are 36" inches from floor to top of countertop. If there is a raised area above the height of your kitchen countertop this is usually 42" high. Then bar stools 30" seat height are needed.

Bar stools should be 12" inches from seat to bar top. Bars or elevated kitchen tops usually require Barstools 30" in seat height. Most all Bars and elevated kitchen tops are 42" from floor to top of bar top. For comfortable sitting a 12" seat to bar top ratio is ideal.
